The Bellville, Texas community is very supportive of the Bellville Police Department. From presenting the department with a new American flag because theirs was starting to show some wear to providing lunch for the whole department, the city is constantly showing its support of the officers who protect them every day. In turn, the Bellville Police Department shows its appreciation of the community by holding events such as Back the Blue 5K.

The 2nd annual Back the Blue 5K is being held on April 6, 2019 at Clark Park in Bellville. Typically, these events are hosted by the department to raise money for something they need. True to the Bellville PD’s nature, they are donating all the funds raised from this race to CASA For Kids of South Central Texas.

CASA For Kids is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization that helps place abused and neglected children. CASA for Kids of South Central Texas serves Austin, Colorado, Waller & Washington Counties and is part of a national volunteer movement that began in 1977 when Judge David Soukup in Seattle decided he needed to know more about the children whose lives were in his hands. His solution was to ask community volunteers to act as a “voice in court” for abused and neglected children. These Court Appointed Special Advocate® (CASAs) provided him with the detailed information he needed to safeguard the children’s best interests and ensure that they were placed in safe, permanent homes as quickly as possible.

Building on last year’s successful event, there will be a 5K race/walk and a 10K run. In addition, there will be a police vs. fire/EMS softball game and a kickball game. Lunch has been provided by community businesses and the proceeds raised from those sales will go to Austin County Crime Stoppers and Small Town Christmas.

To support the Bellville Police Department and make a donation to CASA For Kids of South Central Texas, you can register for the race in Bellville and attend in person or sign up as a virtual runner to show your support. Virtual runners will receive a full race packet shipped to them. A portion of every race registration, before any expenses, goes directly to CASA For Kids to ensure that they get the highest donation possible from the race. You can also donate directly to CASA For Kids through the OfficerDown.US campaign link. 100% of donations received through this campaign goes directly to CASA For Kids. Our goal for donations is $5,000.
