Every 58 hours, a law enforcement officer in the United States dies in the line of duty. In 2018, 148 police officers gave the ultimate sacrifice.
In the wake of such tragedy, there are spouses, children, mothers, fathers, and siblings left to rebuild their lives and develop their ‘new normal’ as they learn to move forward in memory of their hero. They are survivors.
Back the Blue 5K has partnered with Central Florida COPS (Concerns of Police Survivors) to host a 5K race/walk in Orlando, Florida on January 19, 2019 to raise money for the survivors trying to adjust to life after their loved one has been killed.
All money received from donations funds hands-on programs which allow survivors to receive support from peers who have experienced the gravity of their loss, attend sessions designed for their survivor needs and obtain resources to help them through the process of grief and coping.
Central Florida COPS is a fully volunteer based organization developed by local survivors and relies entirely upon donations to fulfill their mission – to never forget and walk the journey of hope on the road of recovery with every member. Because of this, fundraisers like Back the Blue 5K are a crucial part to fulfilling their mission.
To support the Central Florida COPS organization, you can register for the race in Orlando and attend in person or sign up as a virtual runner to show your support. Virtual runners will receive a full race packet shipped to them. A portion of every race registration, before any expenses, goes directly to Central Florida COPS to ensure that they get the highest donation possible from the race. You can also donate directly to Central Florida COPS through the OfficerDown.US campaign link. 100% of donations received through this campaign goes directly to Central Florida COPS. Our goal for donations is $5,000.
